Fill the Ark
By supporting the long-term work of Heifer projects around the world, you empower an entire community to rise out of poverty. When you fund a project, you’ll receive progress updates and stories about families helped by your gift. Make an even greater difference, so families can lift themselves up through hard work and leadership.
This is no ordinary gift.
Giving an animal is like giving someone a small business, providing wool, milk, eggs and more. Animal donations can provide families a hand up, increasing access to medicine, school, food and a sustainable livelihood.
For $20
Chickens
A single chicken lays an egg every 24-26 hours, providing over 200 eggs or chicks per year. In addition to providing a food source for a single family, these eggs and poultry can also be taken to market and sold, raising funds for medicine, clothing and more. Chickens require very little space, allowing families with small plots of land to maximize what they plant. Chickens help farm production by eating insects, removing weeks and even fertilizing crops.
Geese
In many parts of the world, it is duck and good eggs, not chicken eggs, that form the cornerstone of a healthy diet. By regularly selling geese eggs, families can generate the steady income needed to purchase food, clothes, medicine and pay for school fees.
Ducks
For millions of children around the world, it is duck eggs that provide the cornerstone of a healthy diet. They are also sold for income to pay for medicine and school fees. Ducks are more popular in Asia than in the West. They are raised extensively for their eggs and down. Ducks are omnivores, eating a variety of food sources such as grass, aquatic plants, fish and worms, but they can also rid farms of pesky weeks and insects.
For $30
Honeybees
Honey is the only food that includes all the essential elements necessary to sustain life, including enzymes, vitamins, minerals and even water. Its unique chemical makeup also allows it to be preserved indefinitely.
Many farmers that keep bees are able to harvest honey during the non-growing season to earn extra income, producing 60 pounds or more of honey each year.
For $50
Basket of Hope
The Hope Basket includes a gift of rabbits and a starter flock of chickens. Families also receive training and education in the animals' care to make sure their hope becomes a reality.
The gift of a Hope Basket:
· Provides eggs and protein for nourishment
· Boosts income through sales of extra eggs and offspring
· Passes on the Gift to others, since livestock can multiply quickly
Rabbits are easy to care for and can reproduce in a short amount of time. Chickens lay eggs and provide manure for vegetable gardens. Your livestock donation provides hope for struggling farmers looking for a way out of poverty.
For $60
FLOCK OF HOPE GIVES
CHICKS, DUCKS AND GOSLINGS
A Flock of Hope may include chicks, ducks or goslings, depending on the cultural, climate and dietary conditions of the region. Families will also receive training on the birds’ care. Your Flock of Hope donation:
· Gives daily protein with delicious eggs
· Provides a means of income through the sale of eggs
· Fertilizes crops, which increases farm production
Egg production begins almost immediately, which means malnourished children will now have something to eat. Eggs and poultry can also be taken to market and sold, raising much-needed funds for medicine, clothing and more. A Flock of Hope donation is a remarkable gift that can lift a family from hunger and poverty and ensure their future.
For $120
Sheep
Most sheep produce about 15-30 lbs of wool per year. The average ewe produces about 1.5 gallons of milk a day, allowing a steady stream of sustainable income. Sheep often give birth to twins or triplets, which allows a Heifer family to “Pass on the Gift” to several families each year.
Pig
Most pigs live 10-15 years and can thrive on crop and garden byproduct scraps while the average sow can provide 16 or more piglets a year, making it a viable and long term path to sustainability for Heifer recipient families. Piglets can be sold for anywhere between $50 and $250 in most countries, which provides many farmers the ability to purchase clothing, schooling and other important necessities.
Goat
An average goat produces over 10 times its body weight each year in milk. That’s almost 1 ton of milk per year! Goat milk is the only milk known to over half the world’s population.

COMMUNITY ANIMAL HEALTH WORKERS KIT PROVIDES TRAINING
This kit includes tools such as thermometers, stethoscopes, hoof trimmers, gloves, disinfectants, medicine for animals and more. It also trains participants in properly caring for gift animals.
The Community Animal Health Workers Kit:
· Provides training in animal health, husbandry, breeding and nutrition
· Improves community health by encouraging proper sanitation
· Promotes self-reliance by teaching vital skills that can be used in a career
Animals need food, shelter and medical care just like we do, but in many countries, access to veterinary care is limited. That's why Heifer International trains individuals to become Community Animal Health Workers. Those who participate and learn the skills offered by this gift become empowered to apply those skills to the benefit of their communities.
For $250
WATER BUFFALO
The carabao, a type of water buffalo, is the national animal of the Philippines. A water buffalo is often considered a farmer’s most prized possession.
A farmer can plant four times more rice with a water buffalo than by hand, meaning a more bountiful harvest.
Not only are they sturdy work animals, but they can also provide rick milk to make cheese and provide nourishment for hungry children.
For $300 FISH FINGERLINGS
BETTER HEALTH, MORE WEALTH
Three schools of fish fingerlings are included in this gift, along with training in fish farming techniques, proper feeding and water temperatures.
Your donation of fish fingerlings:
· Increases daily nutrition with lean, healthy fish protein
· Encourages self-reliance by teaching skills in fish farming
· Passes on the Gift in a relatively quick time, allowing others to benefit
The old saying goes, "Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." This gift allows you to do just that. Families with this gift see an increase in both health (thanks to the protein) and income (since fish are easy to sell). And when farmers Pass on the Gift of fingerlings to others in their community, the impact of your support goes even further.
For $480
KNITTERS' BASKET
Heifer International's Knitter's Gift Basket includes a llama, an alpaca, a sheep and an Angora rabbit. Your gift for knitters also ensures families are instructed on how to properly feed and care for the animals.
Each Knitter's Gift Basket:
· Nourishes families with milk from the llama and sheep
· Keeps families warm with wool that can be made into sweaters and scarves
· Provides a source of income from the sale of clothing and blankets made from the wool
These four animals included in the knitting basket provide families with ample wool for warmth, as well as a source of income.
For $500
Heifer
Heifer’s EADD projects place refrigerated chilling plants at strategic locations where farms can bring their milk for storage, thus allowing smaller farmers with only a single cow to profitably participate in the dairy industry.
More than milk! Heifer also works with recipients to install biogas stoves in which the manure from cows and other animals are used as fuel for cooking and other needs. This also reduces many of the harmful side effects and inefficiencies from the use of wood burning stoves.
Recipients learn to read, write and acquire proficiency in other languages to be able to participate in training sessions and more effectively work with project leaders
For $500+
